Supply and Demand
For those of us looking for another guitar to add to our collections, the time has never been better!
Look through the local paper and you'll find that most of the major music stores are always having some type of sale.
Even better is the selection of used guitars that can be found at "give-away" prices. This is the route I take to find my next guitar. In my travels I have met some really interesting people and gotten a number of killer deals on quality guitars.
Most people are willing to negotiate a final price so it pays to ask if they are firm or flexible on the asking price BEFORE you spend the time and money of driving to where they are to see the guitar. If someone stands firm on their price it is an excellent indicator that the guitar is in top shape and the seller will often tell you why they want to get the full price they are asking. Note that even a firm price can be negotiated if you use your head and act professionally.
If you have any questions or comments please send me some E-MAIL. Thank you!
Beauty and the Beast
There are many guitars which look great but are made from cheap materials. Ask where the guitar was made. If you cannot pronounce the name of the country where the guitar was made you may want to reconsider buying it. I try to buy American guitars with quality parts although there are many foreign manufacturers who also produce great instruments.
For info on almost any brand of guitar, amp, effect etc I recommend Harmony-Central (see links). This database has buyers like you and me and they list their opinions on all the instruments they have purchased. I have used this site as a source of information for a long time and it has saved me money and a lot of aggravation.
